Police seized 10,000 pornographic and pirated DVDs worth about RM70,000 during a raid on a shop in Taman Ciku, Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang which was operated by a smut peddler nicknamed Blue King.
The shop, which was open 24 hours, was raided by a police team from the state Commercial Crime Department on Tuesday after a week of monitoring. Blue King, who is in his 40s, was not in the shop at that time. Sources said more than 5,000 pornographic DVDs were recovered in a special room where customers could take their time to look over the titles, adding that the rest of the DVDs were the latest Cantonese serials and blockbuster movies.
"Three workers, in their late 20s, were arrested and have been remanded. They are likely to be charged for selling obscene items and also for infringing the Copyright Act 1987."
It is learnt that the authorities had raided Blue King’s shop at least 20 times in the past three years. He is believed to have shifted his shop from one place to another to avoid detection. He was even banished to Kelantan under the Restricted Residence Enactment in 2002.
